OXFORD, Miss. –
Inclement weather didn’t stop the Rebels from getting work done
Thursday in preparation for the season opener against BYU, as the team
practiced in the morning in full pads at the Indoor Practice
Facility. Later, head coach Houston Nutt surprised the team by
cancelling the evening practice for some team leisure activities.
“We're a little leg weary and we have a lot of guys fighting through
some things, so we decided to make our early practice the full pad one
today,” Nutt said. "I was glad to see Mike Marry (MLB) back out there
today. He looked good, very physical.
“I can see a big jump in our understanding of the terminology and what
we are trying to do, things that were vague to them in the
spring. We've been through the whole book, and it’s great to see
things coming together.”
Saturday’s scrimmage, which is part of Meet The Rebels Day festivities,
will be very important for the coaches as they work closer to narrowing
down some positions.
“The scrimmage will be big for us in determining the pecking order for
several positions that are real close right now. We’re looking
forward to seeing who’s going to take a step for us and keep coming,”
he added. “The scrimmage will be similar to last Saturday’s,
100-plus plays.”
