Ole Miss Soccer Downs Vanderbilt, 3-0
OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss soccer team got back on track in SEC play with a 3-0 win over Vanderbilt Thursday night.
With
the win, Ole Miss improved to 6-10-1 overall (2-7 SEC) while Vanderbilt
fell to 8-9 overall (2-7 SEC). The three goals marked the fifth time
this season Ole Miss has scored at least three goals in a match and it
marks the ninth time the Rebels have recorded multiple goals in a game.
“It
was a total team performance for us on both sides of the ball,” head
coach Matt Mott said. “Anytime you can get a shutout in the SEC
it’s great. And we scored three great goals which was key for us
for sure. Kelly was excellent in goal and the back line did great
for us.”
Ole Miss took a 1-0 lead in the 7th minute when Dylan
Jordan scored her seventh goal of the year. Kendyl Mygatt took
the ball end line and crossed it into the box where Jordan hit a
one-time volley that beat the Vanderbilt keeper.
In the 28th
minute, Alix Hildal scored her third goal of the year. Mandy
McCalla played Hildal into the corner and Hildal beat the Commodores’
keeper to give the Rebels 2-0.
Meredith Snow added the team’s
third goal in the 64th minute as she scored an unassisted goal on a
blast for her second goal of the year.
Goalkeeper Kelly
McCormick recorded her second shutout during SEC play and made five
saves in the win. Ole Miss and Vanderbilt each recorded 14 shots
with the Rebels recording seven shots on goal to the Commodores’ five.
“I
think the team knows our backs are against the wall a little bit and we
came out with tons of energy,” Mott said. “We got an early goal
and an early goal always helps you feel more comfortable and get the
game settled a little.”
Ole Miss will play at Kentucky on Sunday at Noon CT.
