Rebels Rise To Second On Day Two of Golfweek Conference Challenge

Gleadall In First Place, Lance Aces Par-3 7th

VAIL, Colo. -- Thanks to some senior leadership, Ole Miss overcame a shaky front-nine and rallied to move up the standings to a second-place tie at the conclusion of a wild second round of play Tuesday at the Golfweek Conference Challenge in Vail, Colo.

Players battled strong wind, in addition to playing on an already difficult course.

“What tough conditions today,” said head coach Michele Drinkard.  “The course won for sure, but we can’t complain when we keep moving up the leader board.  Green speed was faster today with many tough pin placements, too.”

Oregon holds the team lead with a 601 through two rounds—five strokes ahead of Ole Miss, Pepperdine, and Denver.

Senior Natalie Gleadall remains in a tie for first place after finishing with a 2-over 74 for the day.  In search of her second career tournament victory, Gleadall is tied with Grace Na of Pepperdine for the top individual spot at 1-under.

“Natalie had another nice round in these conditions and kept herself atop the leader board,” said Drinkard.  “She is hitting drives 290-300 yards-plus in this altitude.  It is really fun to watch.”

Holes 1-9 proved to be the Rebels’ undoing yesterday.  That’s where Ole Miss started the second round, and once again, it ran into problems on the front-nine in windy conditions.

But senior Ashley Lance stepped up to the tee on the ninth hole and hit a hole-in-one on the par-3, her second ever hole-in-one. Her first came in the seventh grade.

From there, he Rebels carded 10 birdies, led by senior Haley Millsap, who rebounded from a rocky first day.  Millsap rolled in four birdies and did not go over par once on the back-nine to finish at an even 72.

Millsap tallied the third-best individual score of the day to move her into a tie for 18th place at 7-over.

Ericka Schneider sits at 9-over for the tournament after shooting a 79.

Lance and Haley Sanders each carded an 81 for the round, and are at 15-over and 16-over, respectively.

Play continues with the third and final round tomorrow.  Fans can follow the action with live stats on www.OleMissSports.com
