Ole Miss Soccer Travels To Nationally-Ranked Memphis
OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole
Miss soccer team will face its second nationally-ranked team in as many
games as the Rebels travel to Memphis Friday for a game against the
Tigers at 7 p.m.
Ole Miss will return to home on Monday,
September 12 to host The Citadel at 1 p.m. Admission to all home
Ole Miss soccer matches is free.
“The Memphis game is a
great opportunity for us,” head coach Matt Mott said. “They are
number 16 in the country and are 5-0 and they are playing really
well. Our girls are excited and we are excited to play
them. They are our biggest rival outside of the SEC and so I
expect a really great game. They are a very good team so we have
to be sharp and focused and ready to go.”
OLE MISS-NO. 16 MEMPHIS
Ole
Miss leads the all-time series, 8-5-1. The Rebels and Tigers are
1-1 in their last two meetings with each winning on the other team’s
home field. This year’s meeting will mark the third consecutive
meeting where Memphis will be nationally-ranked.
The
Tigers are 5-0 this year including wins over two SEC schools, LSU and
Alabama. Memphis played one game over the weekend, winning 2-0 at
Western Kentucky. Led by Kaitlyn Atkins’ six points, 12 Tiger
players have recorded at least one point on the year.
Goalkeeper Elis Kuhar-Pitters has allowed two goals in five matches and has recorded five saves and three shutouts.
“The
Citadel is very well coached and they will be organized and tough to
break down,” Mott said. “They have this whole week off so they
will be ready for us. We have got to be sharp and play well at
home.”
OLE MISS-THE CITADEL
Ole Miss and The Citadel have never met.
The

and a 2-1 loss to Navy. Vanessa Aponte has recorded eight points
