Rebels Tied For First After Day One
OXFORD, Miss. – Natalie
Gleadall shot a tournament-best 3-under 69 to lead the Ole Miss women’s
golf team to a 292 and into a tie for first at the conclusion of the
opening round of the BancorpSouth Rebel Intercollegiate.
No. 17
Baylor also shot a 292 to join Ole Miss at the top of the
standings. Missouri sits six strokes back from the Rebels and
Bears.
Gleadall shot a par through the first nine holes before
rolling through the back-nine with three birdies. For the day,
the senior birdied four holes and bogeyed just one. She holds a
one stroke lead over Baylor’s Jaclyn Jansen. The two were the only
players to finish under-par for the round.
“She looked really
comfortable and kept hitting darts right at the flag,” said Ole Miss
head coach Michele Drinkard. “She had her ball rolling today
too. When that happens, the hole starts looking as big as a
basketball hoop, and she drains everything.”
Coming off of her
first career top-five finish in Maui last week, senior Haley Millsap
shot her way into fourth with a 1-over 73.
Ericka Schneider, who
also turned in a season-best performance in Maui, finds herself in the
top-10 at ninth place. A birdie on the final hole gave her a
2=over finish for the round.
“As a team we hit more greens today
and made a good number of birdies as a result<,” said
Drinkard. “Our focus tomorrow will be the same, take care of the
process and the outcome will be positive.”
