FAIRBANKS, Alaska
– Senior Melissa Quartarone fired a career-best in smallbore and also
led No. 14 ranked Ole Miss in air rifle, but a school-record
performance from No. 3 ranked Alaska-Fairbanks pushed the Nanooks to a
4694-4610 win over the Rebels Sunday.
The Rebels opened their first ever trip to the Last Frontier state with a win over No. 14 NC State on Friday.
Against
Alaska-Fairbanks, Quartarone fired a 586 in smallbore, one off the
school-record of 587 and three better than her previous career-best, to
lead the Rebels who shot a 2285. Abbey Stanec turned in a
570.
Quartarone
also shot a 586 in air rifle to pace the Rebels, who finished with a
2325. Stanec totaled a 584, and freshman Alison Weisz posted a
season-best 583, one better than her score against Army.
The
Rebels are still aiming for more though, according to head coach
Valerie Boothe, who spoke of her team’s next challenge while waiting to
board the plane home to Oxford.
“We
knew today would be tough, we had some great efforts, but it just
wasn’t what we wanted,” Boothe said. “Now we have to get back and
start preparing for Kentucky.”
