Nelson Clutch In Rebels’ First-Round Win At Paradise Jam

ST. THOMAS, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS - Dundrecous Nelson scored 15 of his 16 points in the second half to lead Ole Miss to a 63-59 win over Drake in the first round of the Paradise Jam.

Ole Miss (3-0) trailed nearly the entire game but took a 54-53 lead with 4:03 left and controlled the game the rest of the way.

Nelson, who was in foul trouble early and didn’t play most of the first half, took over with his shooting in the second period. He scored seven straight points for the Rebels early in the second half and then hit a clutch 3-pointer at the 2:06 mark to make it 61-56.

Nelson led the Rebels in scoring and had six of the team’s 11 steals. Freshman Jarvis Summers scored a career-high 14 points. Terrance Henry added eight points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

"I really believe this team can be special," head coach Andy Kennedy said after the game. "It was the worst offensive performance that I've ever coached, and yet to find a way to grind out wins is very encouraging to me. I love this team's competitive spirit. I thought we defended well, most especially down the stretch."

Both teams were in foul trouble throughout the contest, which saw 47 total fouls committed.

Ben Simons paced the Bulldogs (2-1) with 22 points, including four 3-pointers.

Ole Miss advances to play the winner between No. 19 Marquette and Winthrop.
