Ole Miss Finishes Strong At NCAA XC South Regional

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Junior Haley Cutright, freshman Sophie Linn and freshman Robert Domanic turned in elite performances and earned All-Region honors to lead Ole Miss at the NCAA South Region Cross Country Championships on Friday.

“This was our fastest meet of the year,” head coach Brian O’Neal said. “From the opening gun we competed as hard as we could. I’m very proud of the effort that everyone put in today. ”

Cutright and Linn led the Rebel women with two top-20 performances to help Ole Miss to a fifth-place team showing. They crossed the finish line one after the other just three seconds apart to grab 16th and 17th place with 6K times of 20:38.94 and 20:41.95, respectively.

By finishing among the top 25 individuals, Cutright and Linn both earned All-Region honors, marking just the second time in Ole Miss women’s history for two Rebels to make All-Region. Linn becomes the first freshman to make the women’s All-Region team in school history.

In a field of 27 teams, Florida State won the women's team standings with 35 points. Vanderbilt was second with 116, Alabama was third with 143 and Florida placed fourth with 153. Ole Miss closed out the top five with 169 points.

As a team the Lady Rebels finished ahead of SEC members Georgia, Mississippi State, Tennessee and Auburn. Ole Miss finished with an average time of 21:01.61.

Freshman Robert Domanic led the men with an 18th-place effort, posting a time of 30:35.31 in the first competitive 10K of his collegiate career. Senior Max Holman finished 33rd with a time of 30:55.76, improving by 36 spots from his 69th-place finish one year ago.

Domanic made his presence known by making the All-Region team, becoming the second freshman to earn that honor in Ole Miss men’s cross country history (Barnabas Kirui, 2006).

The men finished ninth out of 26 teams overall, ahead of host Alabama and SEC foe Vanderbilt. Ole Miss finished with an average time of 31:20.11.

The Rebels will find out who qualifies for the NCAA Cross Country Championships on Monday.
