	Updike Named Newcomer of the Week Again Updike has won a weekly Conference award six times this season COLUMBIA, Mo. – Freshman Rachel Updike has been named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week by the Conference office for the sixth time this season on Tuesday (Feb. 21). She is the only gymnast to earn Newcomer of the week six times in one season, and one of three gymnasts in the conference to earn a weekly award six times or more in one season. Updike joins former Mizzou Gymnast Sarah Shire for the second-most weekly awards in a year in conference history. The honor comes for Updike after a strong meet against Oklahoma on Feb. 17. Updike recorded a 9.900 on vault to contribute to the Tigers’ second-highest team vault score in program history. She put up a 9.850 on beam to match her career-high, and she recorded a 9.900 on floor as well to tie for second on the event with teammate Mary Burke. Earlier this season, Updike became the first gymnast in the history of the Big 12 Conference to win a weekly award in five consecutive weeks.
