Mizzou Over Delaware State 79-0
Mizzou Football scored a
school-record 79 points en route to a shutout of Delaware State on
Saturday afternoon (Sept. 24). Sophomore QB Drew Lock (Blue Springs,
Mo.) tied the school record with five passing touchdowns, all in the
first half, becoming just the third Tiger to throw for five TD's in
multiple games. Four went to junior wideout J'Mon Moore (Missouri City,
Texas), who also tied the school record while going over the 100-yard
mark for the third time in four games this season.
Mizzou's
previous school record for points in a game (modern era) was 69, set on
three separate occasions, most recently in 2011 vs. Western Illinois.
Three Mizzou wideouts went over 100 yards for the first time since 2008
and the defense held the Hornets to 140 total yards.
Mizzou
exploded for 30 points in the first quarter, using four touchdowns and
a 31-yard field goal from freshman Tucker McCann (O'Fallon, Ill.),
scoring on its first five drives for the first time since 2013 at
Vanderbilt. The Tigers racked up 255 total yards in the first to score
more points in a first quarter than any other Mizzou team. The 30
points in the first are just one off of the school record for points in
a single quarter of 31, set in 1979 and 1991 (fourth and second
quarters, respectively).
Sophomore QB Drew Lock (Blue
Springs, Mo.) threw of 252 of those 255 yards and three scores, all to
Moore, who tallied 104 yards in the first quarter for his second
consecutive 100-yard game and third in four games this season.
The
Tigers hung a school-record 58 points in the first half and compiled
506 total yards in the opening frame as Lock threw for 402 yards and
five touchdowns. Lock now has two 400-yard games this year, trailing
only two Mizzou QBs for 400-yard games in a career. Lock is just the
third Mizzou QB to have a pair of five-touchdown outings as well.
The
two teams agreed to play 10-minute quarters in the second half, and
Mizzou scored three times courtesy of backup QB Marvin Zanders
(Jacksonville, Fla.). Zanders sandwiched runs from 11 and 14 yards,
respectively, around a two-yard strike to Eric Laurent (Ballwin, Mo.)
for his first career TD pass and Laurent's first career TD grab.
Mizzou
will be back in action next Saturday (Oct. 1) as it makes its first
ever trip Death Valley for a 6:30 p.m. against LSU. For all the latest
