Gymnastics Welcomes Kelsy Landreth
New Tiger to Join 2011-12 Team
Columbia,
Mo. – The University of Missouri Gymnastics program and Head Coach Rob
Drass are proud to announce the addition of Kelsy Landreth to the
2011-12 Mizzou Gymnastics team. Landreth will join the Tigers this
season from Show-Me Gymnastics in Columbia, Mo. where she trained under
Kathy Sanford.
“We’re really excited to sign Kelsy Landreth,”
head coach Rob Drass said. “She is going to come in at the semester
break and will compete for us this year. We are extremely excited about
that because she will add some much-needed depth to our team. She is a
competent all-around gymnast and we expect her to come in and
contribute immediately.”
As a level 10 gymnast, Landreth earned
second in the All-Around at the Missouri State Meet. She took the
Vault, Bars and Floor titles at the meet as well. Landreth also placed
second in the All-Around at the 2010 Regional Meet.
“She
is extremely talented as a gymnast, and we feel that, given the
resources we have and her connection to Columbia, it was a natural
fit,” Drass said.
Landreth says she chose to come
to Mizzou because of her connection to the school; she has grown up
with the dream of being a Tiger gymnast after witnessing the positive
energy of the team and the coaching staff at the meets.
“I am most looking forward to being a part of the team and contributing to the success of the team,” she said.
Landreth
boasts personal bests of 9.575 on vault, 9.400 on bars, 9.475 on beam
and 9.425 on floor. Her career-high all-around score is currently
37.400.
“We think Kelsy is going to become a great
asset to our team,” Drass said. “Right away, I can see her contributing
on vault; she has a very strong vault. She is a strong tumbler as well.
I think that beam and bars are about consistency, so it is always
possible to make a bar or beam lineup as long as you show consistency
in practice.”
