No. 4 Seed Florida 2, No. 8 Seed Alabama 0
Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh On her team’s 2-1 win against eighth-seeded Alabama on Friday … “I am really, really happy to get to the final, especially with how we finished the regular season. We needed a little bit of a boost going forward and I think we’ve gotten that in those two games.” On how important it was that Florida answered with a goal after Alabama’s early goal …
“That was a terrific response by our team, I thought. In the second half, we really, really played well and credit [Alabama goalkeeper Justine] Bernier for really good saves.”
On the toughness of Alabama’s defense and how Florida broke through in the second half … “When you’re playing against a bunker like that, it is never going to be easy, especially with a really good keeper because she kept them in it over and over and over again. I think our team kept their composure, they stayed patient, we got the ball out wide where we needed to and things happened for us.”
On Lindsay Thompson’s game-winning goal … “It was a really good ball-movement by us. We penetrated on the dribble, sent it out wide, got it across and that second ball across was the one that was the assist for the goal. It was really good ballmovement.”
On advancing to the championship match and facing Auburn on Sunday … “I’m excited. Auburn is a good team; they have a really, really special player and we’re going to have to play very well to beat them. It was a tight game at our place, so we’re looking forward to a really good match.”
Florida Player #18 Lindsay Thompson, Sr., F On back-to-back wins at the SEC Tournament to advance to the championship match … “It’s very gratifying. I felt like it’s been a while since we won two in a row, so it’s kind of a relief that we see that we can still do this. We’re a good team, so we can’t get down on those losses.” On her game-winning goal … “Erika [Tymrak] had been dribbling the whole game and it seemed like she couldn’t find the last pass because the runs were off or whatever. Finally, she gets through and just lays it right across the goal for me to tap it in, basically.” On facing Auburn in the SEC Tournament Championship … “It’s great and losing McKenzie [Barney] does add a bit more motivation. She came into this school with me and we’re very good friends, so I’m wishing her the best of recovery and we’re trying to win this for her.” Florida Player #17 Erika Tymrak, Jr., MF On her team’s 2-1 win against eighth-seeded Alabama … “[Alabama] came out so hard; I have so much respect for them. The first half, we obviously didn’t come out that hard, so when we went into the locker room at halftime, we said that we have 45 minutes to make it up and we came out hard. We had chance after chance and luckily we put it away.” On breaking out of an eight-match point slump with a goal in the first half … “Every player has a slump, but my team was working for me. It felt good to finally get it. Caroline [Triglia] came on off the bench and had an amazing couple of passes. I think it was a couple of give-and-gos and she did awesome. She gave me a perfect ball. All I had to do was look up and I hit it far.” On facing Auburn in the SEC Tournament Championship … “It’s going to be a tough game. We’re really excited and I’m sure they are too, so it’s going to be a battle.
