Gators' Opener a 65-0 Rout of Eastern Michigan
The debut of UF's new offense was postponed by weather for a week but returned to defeat Eastern Michigan 65-0.
Team Notes - With UF’s 65-0 victory over Eastern Michigan, the Gators extended their winning streak in season openers to 25 straight games dating back to the 1990 season. - Florida has the nation’s second-longest winning streak on Opening Day (Nebraska, 29 games). - The Gators ran their record to 81-27 (.750) all-time in season openers, including a 66-6 (.929) mark at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. - UF won its sixth consecutive game against an opponent from the Mid-American Conference, dating back to 2002. UF holds a 10-1 record all-time against the MAC. - Florida scored 65 or more points for the first time since Nov. 22, 2008, when the Gators defeated The Citadel, 70-19. - Florida scored on its opening drive of the season for the second straight year, when Frankie Velez converted a 33- yard field goal. The drive totaled 16 plays for 63 yards, and took 6:31 off the clock. - Florida scored 60 points for the first time since a 62-3 win over Charleston Southern on Sept. 5, 2009. - Only four Southeastern Conference schools scored 60 or more points in a game during the 2013 season (South Carolina, 70 vs. Coastal Carolina; Texas A&M, 65 vs. Sam Houston State; Auburn, 62 vs. Western Carolina; Mississippi State, 62 vs. Troy). - Florida set a record for points in the Will Muschamp Era, and topped the 50-point mark for the second time under Muschamp (also: 54 vs. Furman, Nov. 19, 2011). - Florida scored 30 points in the first half for the second time in the Muschamp Era (last: Sept. 24, 2011 at Kentucky, 31 points). - UF shut out an opponent for the first time since Nov. 17, 2012, vs. Jacksonville State, a span of 14 games. - The Gators controlled the time of possession: 35:43-24:17 - Florida totaled 655 yards of offense and yielded 125 yards to Eastern Michigan - The Gators rushed for 259 yards on the day, 114 yards above last season’s average of 145.8 rushing yards per game. - With four scores on the ground, the Gators rushed for at least three touchdowns in a game for the first time since Sept. 21, 2013 at Tennessee. - UF amassed 308 yards in the first half; Florida had 200 or more yards in the first half of three games in 2013 (Toledo – 242, Kentucky – 253, Georgia – 209). - The Gators had 27 first downs, compared to 7 for the Eagles. - Florida held Eastern Michigan to 125 total yards, with just 45 through the air. - Florida scored on its first five drives, recording three touchdowns and two field goals. - Florida recorded its first takeaway of the season when Caleb Brantley recovered an EMU fumble, leading to Kelvin Taylor’s 31-yard touchdown run. - Florida ran 86 plays in its first game under offensive coordinator Kurt Roper; last season, the team averaged 66.1 snaps per contest. - The UF defense held the Eagles without a first down until the 13:14 mark of the second quarter. - The Gators forced EMU’s offense into 7 three-and-outs in its 17 total drives. - Head Coach Will Muschamp improved to 23-16 (.590) in his career. - Florida tallied more than 600 yards for the 17th time in school history (last: 624 vs. Charleston Southern, 2009) - The Gators were +5 in turnover margin, recovering four fumbles and notching an interception, and did not commit any turnovers.
