Alabama Football vs. LSU ‐ Postgame Quote
Head Coach Nick Saban Opening statement: “I actually think that was a heck of a football game. I’m really proud of the way our players competed in the game. I thought we played hard and physical and we played with a lot of toughness. It was a very physical game on both sides. We had a lot of opportunities that we didn’t take advantage of. The missed field goals, or the opportunities that created the missed field goals, an interception penalty that takes us out of field position, a possible touchdown that turns out to be an interception and not being able to take advantage of the field position after that to score points. Those are two great teams. LSU has a very good team, they’re number one in the country for a reason. They played a heck of a game and our guys played a heck of a game. We had a lot of opportunities. Our team is going to get better from this. Every game is important. Every game that we’ve played to this point was important and so is every game we play in the future. We all have a shared responsibility in what we do and it all starts with me. Players and coaches alike, but it all starts with me in terms of what we do, how we do it and how we finish it. It’s nobody’s fault, it all starts right here. I can’t really say that I’m not proud of the way our players competed in the game and played in the game. We just didn’t execute well enough in certain situations and did not take advantage of some of the opportunities that we had. People say you get what you deserve, but often times you get what you expect. Having high expectations for what you want to accomplish and what you want to achieve is very important. I think our players were all doing that tonight. I think that when we look at the film we’ll all be a little disappointed that we weren’t able to take advantage of some circumstances and situations in the game, but this group of players will push forward and represent this University in a first class way. It’s important to me and I think it’s important to them. #73 William Vlachos, Offensive Line On tonight’s loss: “I love these guys that are on my team. We fought from start to finish. I wouldn’t have rather had anybody else out with me than my teammates. It’s one of those things that we’ll learn from and it hurts.” On looking forward: “We still have a great opportunity in front of us. That was a great team and our hat is off to them. They beat us tonight and at the same time we can’t control our destiny, but we can control what we do from here on out. If we continue to keep the foot on the pedal and get better, I think we have a chance to do something very, very special this season.” #41 Courtney Upshaw, Linebacker On the team’s effort until the end trying to win the game: “We fought down to the end. That last snap on the field goal, those guys tried to go out there and block it. It was a hard game. We just got to go out and play better against Mississippi State and execute on the chances that we have. We got to just dominate them.” On
how the missed opportunities throughout the game:“We knew it was going
to be a tough game. We knew it was going to be a hard fought game. It
just came down to who executed on the chances that they had. They did.
