Texas A&M Stops Alabama, 3-0

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama soccer team allowed two first half goals en route to a 3-0 loss to No. 27/24 Texas A&M on Friday night at the Alabama Soccer Complex.

The Aggies (11-3-1, 6-1 SEC), who came into the contest leading the SEC in shots and shots on goal, outshot the Crimson Tide (5-9, 3-4) 29-5 and controlled most of the possession throughout the night.

"I'm taking total responsibility for this loss tonight," Alabama head coach Todd Bramble said. "The way I had us organized gave them too much room and too much time to play. I don't blame our players tonight, it's totally on me as a head coach."

Texas A&M seized control of the game with a pair of goals in the opening 45 minutes by midfielder Shea Groom to take a 2-0 lead into the locker room. Groom's first tally came off a rebound and put back in the 35th minute. Just under four minutes later, at the 39:02 mark, Groom converted a penalty kick to result in the halftime score.

The third Aggie goal was scored in the 63rd minute by Bianca Brinson.

Alabama's best chance came with 10 minutes remaining when senior midfielder Molly Atherton hit a dipping shot from 30 yards out that was going in the back of the net, but Texas A&M goalie Jordan Day managed to just tip the ball over the bar to keep the cleansheet.

Alabama goalkeeper Emily Rusk, who entered the match leading the SEC in saves per game (4.90), collected eight stops on the evening in the losing effort.

The Crimson Tide will return to action on Sunday when it hosts No. 24/14 Kentucky at 1 p.m. CT at the Alabama Soccer Complex.
