POST PRACTICE QUOTES
Quarterback Brandon
Allen on Mississippi State’s pass defense: “They have a real solid
D-line. Their linebackers are big and physical. Those guys
are real disruptive and they kind of make a lot of plays for
them. Their secondary are obviously good SEC players. They
have a bunch of athletic guys back there and they’ll make the plays
when you let them. It’s our job to get open and make some plays
in the passing game because they have a really tough front seven.”
Allen
on Mississippi State’s linemen: “They do a few different
things. I think they want to be a four-down team and a little bit
of three-down. They do a good job of mixing up coverages and
doing different things in the secondary. It’s really up to me to
recognize the coverages and see things.”
Offensive guard Brey
Cook on Mississippi State’s Preston Smith: “He’s a very talented
kid, very talented football player. He’s big, strong and he’s
definitely a guy that stands out on film. I’ve watched a lot of
film on him so far and will continue to do so. We’re excited to
go out there and play against that talent.”
Tight end coach
Barry Lunney on the importance of the tight ends: “They’re no more
important than the other 11 that are out there, but we obviously have
to play at a high level. I think every single player on the
football team has to play at their highest level for us to go win the
football game. Sure, the tight ends have to play well. They
have to be big in the run game against some big physical ends and
linebackers. We have to be big in the passing game. If we
do our 1/11th—each guy does their 1/11th of the formula—we’ll have a
real good chance to win.”
Lunney on maintaining balance
offensively: “We’ve got to be balanced. We have to run it,
throw it. It’s hard to be one-dimensional and beat anybody, much
less the number one team in the country that’s playing really good
defense with good physical, athletic, talented players that are well
coached. If you don’t go into the game trying to be balanced and
striving to achieve balance, it’ll be difficult for us to accomplish
what we want to accomplish.”
Offensive line coach Sam Pittman on
Mississippi State’s run defense: “They’re big. You look at
their front four and they’re really heavy—athletic and heavy.
Their linebackers are big guys. They have one guy that’s 225
pounds, but the rest of them are 250 pounds and up and can run. A
lot of the guys have a lot of experience. We went back and
watched our game from last year and almost everybody is in the game
that’s going to be in the game on Saturday.”
