5 Alabama softball team concluded its week with a perfect 4-0 record to
extend its winning streak to 15 games, sweeping a Southeastern
Conference weekend series against Arkansas after earning a 12-2 victory
over Troy on Tuesday. Alabama opened its weekend on the road
against
Arkansas with a 6-1 win and then tallied 16 runs on 15 hits to earn a
16-8 win in the nightcap. The Tide earned the sweep over the Razorbacks
by coming from behind in an 8-6 win. After a Florida loss to Tennessee
on Friday night, Alabama currently sits atop the standings in the
league. Alabama out-scored its opponents 42-17 on the week and batted
.390 while posting a 3.08 ERA. The Tide slugged 12 home runs en route
to breaking the single season school record of 79, set in 2007. Alabama
currently sports 82 long balls on the season. Individually junior
Whitney Larsen led the attack at the plate by batting .600 (6 for 10)
with three home runs and eight RBI. Sophomore Amanda Locke also hit
three home runs and drove in six while batting .556 (5 for 9). Freshman
Kayla Braud continued to keep her batting average hovering around .500
by hitting .563 (9 for 16) on the week, adding six runs and five stolen
bases. Alabama has not lost a game in the month of April this season
and showcases a 63-3 record in the month dating back to 2007. Alabama
will host Georgia Tech on Wednesday night and then welcome Tennessee
for three games this upcoming weekend. Two of the three games against
the Lady Vols will be televised on the ESPN family of networks,
including a primetime game on Saturday night on ESPN.
