Lady Vol Swimming Opens Season at UNC-Wilmington


         

The Tennessee Lady Vol swimming and diving team will open its 2011-12 campaign on the road in Wilmington, N.C., for a pair of weekend meets.

Off the Blocks

1. The 2011-12 edition of the Tennessee Lady Vol swimming and diving team will begin its schedule with a trip to Wilmington, N.C., for a pair of meets. The action begins on Friday when the team faces off against the Seahawks of UNC-Wilmington.

2. It will be the fi rst time the schools have met, along with the fi rst time since 2001 that Tennessee will not open the season at home or in the state of Kentucky.

3. Now in his seventh season at Rocky Top, Lady Vol head swimming coach Matt Kredich has had much success in season opening duals, as he holds a 5-1 record in regular-season openers.

4. In last season's dual meet opener, the Lady Vols overwhelmed visiting Arkansas by winning 13 of the 16 events, en route to a 171-129 win over the Razorbacks at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center.

5. Tennessee returns six All-Americans this season. Five current Lady Vols claimed A-A accolades in 2011, as the Big Orange finished 12th at the NCAA Championships.
