By Todd Mounce
KNOXVILLE,
Tenn. – All three of the Tennessee Lady Vol divers who were in action
Wednesday fared well on the 3-meter boards, as Tori Lamp, Gabrielle
Trudeau and Jodie McGroarty claimed top five finishes at the Georgia
Diving Invitational held at Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens, Ga. “As
a team we had an excellent outing, finishing second, fourth and fifth
in the standings,” Tennessee head diving coach Dave Parrington said.
“We had a pretty good battle with some of our conference foes and I’m
pleased with getting three of the top five places.” Lamp
had UT’s best finish, notching a combined score of 606.95 to place
second. After sitting out of yesterday’s 1-meter competition due to
illness, the redshirt sophomore recorded the second-best tallies in
both the prelims in the finals. The Knoxville native advanced to finals
after a mark of 286.90 in the prelims and scored 320.05 in the finals. “I’m
extremely pleased with Tori’s performance having been pretty well under
the weather for quite a few days,” Parrington said. “For her to stand
up and do what she did was extremely commendable.” Trudeau
advanced to the finals after finishing fourth in the prelims with a
score of 269.60. The senior also took fourth overall, tallying 294.90
in the finals to finish with a mark of 564.50. Her finals tally was the
third highest in the round. In the prelims, McGroarty, a redshirt
sophomore, qualified for the round of 16 after earning a six-round
score of 266.60. The Sheffield, England, product would then finish
fifth overall after scoring 293.85 in the finals to end the event with
a tally of 560.45. Auburn’s Vennie Dantin took first in the 3-meter completion after scoring 664.75 between the prelims and finals. All
three will compete in this evening’s shootout as a result of finishing
within the top six. Each diver will perform a dive of her choice with
the competitor with the lowest score from each round eliminated until
two divers remain.
