SHORT HOPS: The Bulldogs close out their 2013 regular season
schedule on the home turf this week as Mississippi State (37-15/14-13
SEC) welcomes first-time foe Oral Roberts (21-28) to Starkville for a
Tuesday night (6:30 p.m.) game before wrapping up the schedule against
No. 10 South Carolina (37-14/16-10 SEC) in a Thursday-through-Saturday
series at Dudy Noble Field. Weekend game times are set for 6:30/6:30/2
p.m. with MSU’s annual senior salute set before Friday’s game … MSU
staged one of its top all-time comeback wins in league play in Sunday’s
series finale at Ole Miss a 6-0 deficit for a 7-6 win that keeps the
Bulldogs in the hunt for a top-four league finish. Shortstop Adam
Frazier delivered a pair of two-run hits in his final two plate
appearances of the game for a career-best four RBI in the game. UM
claimed 3-0 and 10-8 wins in the first two games of the series. Frazier
(.330) hit .429 (6-for-14) with two doubles and a career-best four RBI
to pace State at the plate … Junior pitcher Ben Bracewell (1-1, 1.46)
blanked UM with five innings of one-hit pitching over a career-longest
5.0 innings and earned his first career win in the Sunday win … MSU
relief ace Jonathan Holder (2-0, 1.119, 13 saves) extended his run of
scoreless innings pitched to 26.1 innings before giving up three
unearned runs in an early-game relief stint Sunday. Holder set the
school record with a 27.1-inning run as a freshman in 2012 … Sophomore
Ross Mitchell (1.28, 9-0, 1 save) did not allow an earned run in two
innings of relief work over the weekend and regained the SEC lead in
earned run average … Junior infielder Alex Detz (.290) drew a pair of
free passes over the weekend to maintain a share of the SEC lead with
42 walks, while power-hitting outfielder Hunter Renfroe (.390)
continues to lead the SEC with 15 home runs and a .750 slugging
percentage … Mississippi State takes aim on a pair of impressive
attendance marks in its final home series this weekend against South
Carolina. MSU is 11,140 away from the five million mark in all-time
paid home attendance at Dudy Noble Field. Since MSU first started
tracking attendance figures in 1976, MSU has totaled 4,988,860 in paid
home attendance. MSU eclipsed the 200,000 mark for total home paid
attendance in a season for the seventh time during its most recent home
series, raising that total to 213,054. MSU is 19,961 away from the
school single-season record of 233,015 set in 2003 … MSU has clinched
its 29th advancement to the SEC Tournament set May 21-26 in Hoover,
Ala. It’s the second-most SEC tourney advancements in the league in 37
SEC Tournaments.
