No. 24 Mississippi State Hosts UT Martin

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Looking to start the year 6-1 for the first time since 2004-05, No. 24 Mississippi State returns to action on Friday against Ohio Valley Conference foe UT Martin.

Tip at Humphrey Coliseum is set for 7 p.m., and tickets can be purchased for $10.

“We’ve had some time off to get our legs back under us, but it will be good to get back on the court,” said MSU coach Rick Stansbury, whose 5-1 squad has won its last four. “We’ve been able to work on some things we need to improve, and this is a big game for us.”

The Skyhawks come to Starkville sporting a 1-4 ledger following their 80-69 loss to Lamar on Tuesday. They are led in scoring by Mike Liabo’s 15.6 clip, following by Corderio Macklin at 10.2 points.

“We’ve just got to play our game, get the ball up and down the court and play defense,” said All-SEC guard Dee Bost, who leads MSU in scoring at 16.8.

In their current 4-game winning streak, MSU has kept its opponents to 65 points or less. On the year, MSU is yielding just 63.2 points an outing, while averaging 71.3 points.

UT Martin is the second OVC foe MSU will play this season, as the Bulldogs opened the year with  a 76-66 victory against Eastern Kentucky.

All-time, Mississippi State is 6-1 against UTM and has won the last five. The Bulldogs are also 24-2 against OVC members.
