FLETCHER COX NAMED SEC DEFENSIVE LINEMAN OF THE WEEK

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State junior defensive tackle Fletcher Cox was named the Southeastern Conference Defensive Lineman of the Week, the SEC announced on Monday.

Cox, a native of Yazoo City, Miss., posted a career-best seven tackles in Mississippi State's 21-3 victory at UAB on Saturday.  He leads a defensive front that has not allowed a touchdown in its last 6 quarters, a total of 20 opponent possessions. On Saturday, Cox was a presence in the offensive backfield all day against UAB, and was credited by coaches with five quarterback hurries.

Cox is the first Bulldog player honored as Defensive Lineman of the Week by the league since Pernell McPhee claimed the award twice in 2009. Earlier this season, senior running back Vick Ballard earned Offensive Player of the Week following the Week 1 win at Memphis.
