STARKVILLE, Miss. – What started as a list of 60 is now down to 20.
On Tuesday, Mississippi State senior guard Dee Bost was named a finalist for the 2012 Bob Cousy Award, which is presented annually to the nation’s top point guard by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Bost, a native of Concord, N.C., is currently fifth in the SEC with his 15.9 scoring clip, second in steals (2.3) and fourth in assists (4.4), while his minutes played (34.1) are tops.
Last Saturday in the second half of the Utah State game, the All-SEC standout became the school’s all-time assist leader, breaking the mark of 514 held by Derrick Zimmerman (2000-03).
“It’s an honor to make the cut,” said Bost, whose No. 15th-ranked Bulldogs travel to Arkansas Saturday for an 8 p.m. tip that will be televised on CSS. “To make the cut of 20 means a lot. I thank God, my teammates and coaches for putting me in position to get this type of recognition.”
On Feb. 1, the field will be trimmed to 10, with the final five announced on March 1. The winner of the 2012 Bob Cousy Award will be presented at the Hall of Fame's Class Announcement on Championship Monday in New Orleans as part of NCAA Final Four weekend.
