Bulldogs Now In Top 20 In Both Polls

STARKVILLE, Miss. – As Mississippi State continues to win, its rise in the polls continues upward.

Fresh off the 75-62 victory against Big East power West Virginia on Saturday, Mississippi State moved from No. 21 in the Associated Press poll to No. 17, while jumping six spots in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll from No. 24 to No. 18.

It’s the highest MSU has been in either poll since 2003-04, when it climbed to No. 4 in AP and No. 5 in ESPN.

“It is great to be recognized,” 14th-year MSU coach Rick Stansbury said. “But at the same time we know these polls don’t guarantee wins. We’ve still got to come out every day and work to improve. Teams aren’t going to just back off because we are ranked.”

The Bulldogs currently sport an 8-1 ledger and have won seven games in a row. Fueling the streak has been the play of senior guard Dee Bost and junior forward Arnett Moultrie, who are averaging 17.0 and 16.7 points, respectively. Bost leads the SEC in steals at 2.8 an outing, while Moultrie leads the league in rebounding (11.1) and double-doubles (4). Both rank in the top four in scoring.

MSU doesn’t play again until Saturday when Troy visits for a 3 p.m. showdown that will be televised on FSN.
