Gamecocks' Season Comes to a Close with Loss at No. 5 Arkansas
The University of South
Carolina baseball team saw its season come to a close in the third game
of the Fayetteville Super Regional, falling 14-4 to No. 5 Arkansas on
Monday night (June 11) at Baum Stadium.
Arkansas scored
seven runs in the first two innings, highlighted by a three-run home
run from Carson Shaddy in the first frame. Carolina scored a pair of
runs on a wild pitch in the fourth, as Justin Row scored from second on
that play.
The Razorbacks then scored a run in the fourth
and five runs in the fifth. Jacob Olson belted a pair of solo home runs
in the seventh and eighth innings.
Olson had two hits to
lead the Gamecocks. Luke Bonfield went 3-for-4 with four RBI while Eric
Cole scored five runs for the Razorbacks.
Carmen Mlodzinski
took the loss for Carolina. He allowed four earned runs and four hits
with a strikeout and a walk in the first inning. Ridge Chapman had
three strikeouts in two innings of relief.
The Gamecocks end
the 2018 season winning its final five SEC series, advancing to the
NCAA Tournament, winning the Greenville Regional and taking Arkansas to
a third game of the Super Regional.

The Razorbacks scored five runs on four hits in the first inning, three on Carson Shaddy’s home run.
KEY STAT
Jacob Olson belted his 11th and 12th home runs of the season. He also had 20 doubles on the year.
NOTABLE
South Carolina is now 17-15 all-time in Super Regional action. The Gamecocks used seven pitchers in tonight’s game with Graham Lawson and Ridge Chapmangoing two innings apiece. South
Carolina played Arkansas for the seventh time this season. The only
other time the Gamecocks played a team seven times in a season was
Georgia in 2006. The game was the final for seniors Jonah Bride, Justin Row, Madison Stokes, Hunter Taylor and Matt Williams.
