LSU MEN’S GOLF RANKED IN PRESEASON TOP 20 IN GOLF WORLD RANKING
Team Notes
BATON ROUGE – After
earning a pair of top-25 finishes at the NCAA Championships in each of
the past two seasons, the LSU men’s golf program will open the 2011-12
season next weekend ranked among the Top 20 teams in the country after
picking up the No. 17 national ranking in the Golf World/Nike Golf
Coaches’ Preseason Top 25 poll released this week. LSU is
set to kick off the 2011-12 campaign on Sept. 9-11 as they travel to
The Farm in Rocky Face, Ga., to compete at the 2011 Carpet Capital
Collegiate Classic, which has earned the reputation as being one of the
premier event of the collegiate season year in and year out. The
Tigers are looking to continue their improvement in NCAA competition in
2012 as they have secured finishes of 24th place in 2010 and 21st place
in 2011 at the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championships. The
Tigers are also looking to continue their success from a year ago after
taking four tournament crowns with victories at the Gopher Invitational
and David Toms Intercollegiate in the fall and the Hootie at Bulls Bay
Intercollegiate and LSU National Invitational during the spring season.
LSU has now captured a total of 10 tournament championships in the last
three seasons dating back to the 2009-10 campaign. The
Tigers are one of six teams from the Southeastern Conference ranked in
the Top 20 of the poll as they join the likes of No. 3 Alabama, No. 7
Florida, No. 9 Auburn, No. 10 Arkansas and No. 15 Georgia. The
SEC features perhaps the deepest conference in college golf again this
season as it leads the way with six teams in the ranking. Following the
SEC are the Big 12 and Pac 12 conferences with five teams apiece and
the ACC with four teams and the Big 10 with three teams in the Golf
