LSU NO. 7 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL RECRUITING RANKINGS
BATON ROUGE, La. –
LSU is No. 7 in the annual Collegiate Baseball magazine recruiting
rankings released on Tuesday, marking the fourth time in five years the
Tigers are in the Top 10 of the survey. LSU was No. 1 in 2007 and 2010,
and No. 3 in 2009.
The 14-man LSU recruiting class includes
eight pitchers and six position players. Five of the players were
selected in the 2011 MLB Draft and elected to enroll at LSU instead of
beginning a pro career.
“This is a dynamic class that should
make a tremendous impact upon our program,” said sixth-year LSU coach
Paul Mainieri. “The challenge is to sign the best players in the
country that will come to school, and we’re very excited about the
young men that have joined our team.”
The newcomers and
returning LSU players have been engaged in individual workouts since
late August. LSU begins its six-week fall practice period at 1 p.m.
Sunday in Alex Box Stadium. The 2012 season opens on Feb. 17 when the
Tigers play host to Air Force.
South Carolina is No. 1 in the
Collegiate Baseball survey, followed by Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, Oklahoma,
Southern California, Miami (Fla.), LSU, Florida, Oregon State and
Stanford.
