LSU SOCCER DUO RECEIVES 2011 ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT ACCOLADES
BATON
ROUGE – For the second year in a row, two LSU soccer stars have been
recognized by the College Sports Information Directors of America for
their academic achievement as juniors Carlie Banks and Natalie Ieyoub
were selected to the 2011 CoSIDA Academic All-District VI Team. After
earning second-team honors as a sophomore a year ago, Banks has been
recognized this season with first-team accolades and she is now
eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors in 2011.
Student-athletes receiving first-team academic all-district honors in
eight districts across the country join Banks as candidates for
Academic All-America recognition from the organization. A
junior from Peachtree City, Ga., has been honored in maintaining an
impressive 3.52 cumulative grade-point average while pursuing a degree
in kinesiology with a concentration in fitness studies. Banks
wrapped up the 2011 campaign by scoring two goals and dishing out a
career-high seven assists for 11 points from her forward position. She
has now scored a total of 14 goals and 12 assists for 40 points as an
LSU Tiger during her three-year collegiate career in Baton Rouge. Ieyoub
has been honored as an academic all-district performer for the first
time in her collegiate career, as she has been named to the CoSIDA
Academic All-District VI Second Team this fall. A
midfielder from Lake Charles, La., Ieyoub set a new career high with
two goals this fall as she wrapped up the season with one assist for
five points. Each of Ieyoub’s goals this season proved to be
game-winners for the Tigers in a 2-1 victory over Oklahoma in their
non-conference finale on Sept. 19 and a 2-0 shutout of 10th-ranked
Tennessee on Sept. 30 on the second weekend of conference play. With
the recognition of Banks and Ieyoub to the 2011 CoSIDA Academic
All-District VI Team, LSU has been honored again for their academic
effort as they now boast 11 CoSIDA academic all-district selections
since the 2003 season.
