LSU Defeats Idaho to Remain Undefeated, 63-14

Team Quotes

LSU set the NCAA record with its 40th-straight non-conference win in the regular season; In the process, LSU (3-0) also set a school record with its 20th-straight home victory, all under head coach Les Miles.

LSU HEAD COACH LES MILES QUOTES
Opening Statement …
“First of all, I want to talk about our opponent. I thought that (Dominique) Blackman as a quarterback
played extremely well. He really got the ball out of his hand fast. He made some great throws under
pressure. I thought their receiving corps was extremely competitive. I thought that early on their
defense played rough and tumble football. They have a really good punter and a nice return man. I think
they have the makings of a good team, and I wish them well from this point forward. I felt we got their
best shot and certainly they showed well of themselves.
“I think our football team was imperfect today. I think everyone can see that we can be a dominant
football team. In all three phases at different times we were dominant in this game. We need to
eliminate some mistakes in the red zone. Frankly, we will learn from this game and we will be better for
it. We will improve.
“I want to commend this team again, when you set a national record for non‐conference opponent
victories in the regular season, you go from 39 to 40 and everyone there after we establish the record.
In our stadium, we go from 19 to 20 ‐ 20 straight victories without a defeat. I think those are nice to look
at after the games are over. I think no one cares about those numbers until after the game is played. If
you could see it that way and not ask my players about these records before we play, I would appreciate
that.
“Defense again was stingy, tough and on it. Those guys kept making plays. You have to give them some
credit. We had a coverage bust on the one touchdown. They had a nice drive. They hit a bunch of passes
and hit hot routes with guys in the quarterback’s face. They got the ball off. We move on. It is all about
the next opponent in my opinion.”
On the team’s mistakes …
“Any time you play better competition you can’t afford to give them seven points. You get down in there
and it is plus three or it is minus seven. It has to happen routinely, and it will from now on.”
On Ronald Martin’s performance …
“His play tonight, from where I was standing, looked pretty good. The play by (Jalen) Collins really was
the play. He is playing the ball in the air and has the receiver in a defendable position. He then gets his
hand on the ball and tips it into the air. That is pure textbook. It is that safety that is playing the eyes of
the quarterback that can be late to the scene and make that play. Those were big time plays.”
