Swimming and Diving Celebrates Unprecedented Academic Success in Fall
Record 10 athletes record 4.0 GPA
LEXINGTON,
Ky. – The University of Kentucky swimming and diving team recorded a
record-setting fall semester in the classroom, as the Wildcats claimed
10 athletes with a 4.0 grade-point average, and an additional 30
student-athletes who posted a GPA of 3.0 or higher. In total, 46
student-athletes on the roster claimed a GPA of 3.0 or higher. “I'm
very proud of this team's performance in the classroom,” UK head coach
Gary Conelly said. “10 student-athletes with a 4.0 is a very special
achievement, especially when you factor in the high number of freshmen.” Of the 10 members who earned a 4.0, seven of them were members of the prestigious freshman class. For
the first time in program history, both the men’s and women’s teams
recorded GPAs that averaged over 3.0, with the men posting a mark of
3.03, and the women taking claim to a 3.34 average GPA. “Our academic performance is a real testament to the quality of the individual's who make up our team.” Conelly added. Swimmer’s
and Diver’s that achieved a 4.0 included Brent Dillon, Luke Iannuzzi,
Sarah Chewning, Lindsay Hill, Lindsay Keahey, Blair Kuethe, Lindsay
Lash, Abby Myers, Caroline Pitts, and Jenna Willis. Included
in the list of student-athletes on the team that achieved a 3.5-3.99
are Christa Cabot, Megan Eppler, Samantha Shaheen, Kristen
Wilson,Samantha Wright, John Bullock, Matt Davis, John Fox, Blake
Freeman, Jonathan Keltner, Zack Peterson, Chris Rush, Maclin Simpson,
and Calder Staben UK swimming and diving also placed 16 on
the list of 3.0-3.49 which include Claire Archiblad, Cassie
Brueckbauer, Anna Mattox, Marisa McGlynn, Taylor Melton, Kelcy Perry,
Shannon Reynolds, Sherrill Thompson, Lee Duggins, William Heidler, Pat
Kemme, Kyle Lang, Tyler Reed, Matt Russell, Derrick Smith and Jake
Thomas.
