Women’s Golf Finishes First Round in Second Place
UK finishes first round of the Bettie Lou Evans Fall Invitational one stroke off lead
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The
University of Kentucky women’s golf team finished the first round of
the Bettie Lou Evans Fall Invitational in second place on Friday at the
University Club of Kentucky. UK finished the round with a total score
of 24-over-par 312, including junior Heather Lott finishing tied for
fifth overall at 76. The Cats are just one stroke behind
the leader, UCF, while the rest of the top five is rounded out with
Miami at 26-over-par 314, Illinois at 30-over-par 318 and Mississippi
State at 32-over-par 320. Individually, Lott lead the
Wildcats as the only UK player to finish in the top 10. Senior Ashlee
Rose and junior Ashleigh Albrecht are tied for 11th at 6-over-par 78.
Albrecht was paced by an impressive eagle on the par-five 16th hole.
Illinois’ Samantha Sloan sits atop the individual leaderboard with a
1-over-par 73. Junior Megan Moir finished with an
8-over-par 80, leaving her tied for 25th, while junior Betsie Johnson
ended the first round tied for 29th with an 9-over-par 81. Competing as
an individual, sophomore Liz Breed finished at 10-over par and tied for
42nd. “We battled through some tough conditions today,
including strong winds, but we never gave up,” head coach Golda
Johansson Borst said. “We will continue to fight for each shot tomorrow
and play with confidence to overcome the obstacles that were presented
to us today.” With overcast skies and winds reaching near 30 mph the chilly weather played a major factor in today’s performances.
