Wildcats competing in Seattle, Wash., for season finale
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The
University of Kentucky swimming and diving teams will put a cap on
their 2011-12 season as three UK athletes will compete in the 2012 NCAA
Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships in Federal Way, Wash.,
beginning on Thursday, March 22 and running through March 24.
Representing
the UK swimming team will be senior captain Tyler Reed and freshman
Lucas Gerotto. Reed will compete in the 100-fly after posting a
qualifying time of 43.08 in the 2011-12 season. In the 100-fly at the
Southeastern Conference Championships, Reed had the lead of the race at
the final turn before capping off the regular season with a
fourth-place finish. Reed had been an essential part of the 2011-12 UK
team, winning multiple races en route to one of the most historic
seasons in school history.
Gerotto, a freshman from Sao Paulo,
Brazil finished third in 100-fly in the SEC Championships, highlighting
the event for UK swimmers. Gerotto qualified into the NCAA
Championships with a time of 46.75 in the event.
The final
member of the traveling party to the Evergreen State representing UK is
four-time SEC Diver of the Week Greg Ferrucci. Two weeks ago in
Bloomington, Ind., Ferrucci qualified for the NCAA Championships at the
NCAA Zone Competition on the campus of Indiana University. Ferrucci
placed second at the SEC Championships on the three-meter springboard
while taking home third in Knoxville, Tenn., on the one-meter.
