Wildcats Fall to No. 24 Vanderbilt
Women’s tennis rounds out regular season play
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – To
finish out regular season the University of Kentucky women’s tennis
team (9-13, 1-10 SEC) faced No. 24 Vanderbilt (15-8, 7-4 SEC). The
Wildcats gave a strong effort but could not top the Commodores,
dropping the 7-0 decision. To start off the day, freshman
Stephanie Fox and sophomore Misha Testerman paired up for the first
time this season at the No. 3 doubles slot. The two provided a
highlight as they took on Megan Gornet and Nelly Radeva. The match was
played tight, but Fox and Testerman were able to pull away to grab a
win for the Cats. They posted an 8-5 final result. Testerman
also competed well in singles play, providing tough competition for
Gornet yet again. The two entered the first set battling. After going
point-for-point, Gornet barely edged out Testerment to take the set,
7-6. Testerman continued her fierce play in the second set, but
ultimately could not stop Gornet. The two finished a final result of
7-6, 6-3. Freshman Edmée Morin-Kougoucheff also started
off on fire against 111th-ranked Marie Casares The freshman played
every point close, barely losing the first set, 7-6. As the match
continued, Casares was able to pull ahead despite Morin-Kougoucheff’s
efforts. Casares took the match 7-6, 6-0. At the No. 5
singles slot, McGraw played an almost opposite match. She and Nelly
Radeva played a slightly uneven first set but McGraw mounted a comeback
in the second set. She forced the set into twelve games, but could not
grab the win in the end. The Wildcats will next travel to
Oxford, Miss. for the SEC Championship. Play will begin on Thursday,
April 19th and could last until the 22nd.
