Mary Tucker Eighth, Will Shaner 43rd at 2019 ISSF World Cup
Team Notes
Freshman Mary Tucker placed
eighth in the 10-meter women’s air rifle at the 2019 ISSF World Cup in
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Sophomore Will Shaner finished 43rd in the 10m
men’s air rifle.
“I am very proud of both their
performances,” head coach Harry Mullins said. “They have worked hard to
get to this point in their shooting careers, and if they keep working
hard, I think we will see some special things from both of them in the
future.”
Highlighted by a 106.1 in series five of
qualifying, Tucker shot the top qualifying mark in the competition with
a 631.1. She was the lone American to advance to the final eight.
The
final was set up in two stages. The first stage allowed all eight to
shoot 10 shots. In the second stage, competitors were eliminated
one-by-one in two-shot increments. Tucker was knocked out in the first
elimination, missing the seventh-place cutoff by point-four.
Shaner
shot a 622.8 after his six series in qualifying. His best mark came in
series four, as he shot a 105.5. Shaner placed 43rd out of 88
competitors.
Tucker and Shaner were both
representing the United States at the World Cup that is held from
August 26-September 3 with a multitude of rifle and pistol competitions
taking place.
Tucker enters her freshman campaign
after having a successful high school career. She was the Florida State
Junior Olympics Champion in 2017 and competed in the World Cup Fort
Benning and CAT Games in 2018.
Shaner is coming off
a freshman season where he was named Great American Rifle Conference
Rookie of the Year. Shaner represented the United States this summer at
the 2019 World University Games in Naples, Italy. He finished 12th in
men’s air rifle and eighth in the mixed team event.
