Texas A&M received an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship by winning the SEC Tournament, keeping their streak alive at 19 consecutive years. The Aggies are one of five teams to make it to every NCAA Tournament since 1995. The other schools include North Carolina (1982-2013), Notre Dame (1993-2013), Virginia (1994-2013) and Penn State (1995-2013). A&M head coach G Guerrieri and North Carolina's Anson Dorrance are the only two head coaches to appear in every NCAA Tournament since 1995.

The Aggies are 17-4-1 on the season and enter the NCAA Championship as SEC regular-season co-champion and SEC Tournament champion. Texas A&M has won 12 of its last 13 contests and boast five All-SEC performers, including first-teamers Shea Groom and Meghan Streight and second-teamers Jordan Day, Leigh Edwards and Kelley Monogue, as well as SEC All-Freshman Team and SEC Tournament Most Valuable Player Liz Keester.

Utah is 10-4-6 on the season and registered a 6-3-2 record in the Pac 12 Conference to finish in third place in the league. The Utes are defensive-minded side, registering a 0.69 goals-against average and 10 shutouts on the season. They have played three scoreless draws on the season, including at Kentucky, at Cal State Fullerton and at then-No. 11 California. Utah went 0-2-2 against ranked opponents on the season with ties against California and then-No. 2 UCLA (1-1) and 1-0 losses to then-No. 6 BYU and then-No. 10 Stanford.

The only common opponent to face A&M and Utah is Arizona State, with the Aggies logging a 3-1 home victory and the Utes dropping a 2-1 double-overtime decision in Tempe.

Texas A&M owns a 3-0 edge in the all-time series against Utah. The squads first met in College Station in 1997 with the Aggies posting a 4-0 win. The Maroon and White were victorious in Salt Lake City in 1999, 2-1, and blanked the Utes in College Station in 2003, 1-0.
