Aggie Soccer Named One of TDS Teams to Watch
COLLEGE STATION, Texas –
The Texas A&M soccer team was named one of the Five Colleges to
Watch in 2012 by Top Drawer Soccer recently. The
No. 12 Aggies (RPI Final) joined four other successful programs that
have never reached the College Cup but look promising in 2012. The
outlet put emphasis on sophomores Kelley Monogue and Annie Kunz as
players who could take the program to a new level. The
Aggies joined Oklahoma State, Long Beach State, Memphis and Georgia on
the list of schools to watch. The team hosts Long Beach State on Sept.
7 and Georgia on Oct. 21. The Aggies have a long history with Big 12
foe OSU, ending in a 1-0 A&M victory for the conference tournament
title last November. A&M
has earned 17 postseason appearances and four Elite Eight finishes
under decorated head coach G Guerrieri. The Aggies ended their 12-year
stint in the Big 12 with a 12th-and-final conference championship at
the Big 12 Tournament. The team joins the Southeastern Conference (SEC)
for its rookie season in August. The
Aggies return 19 letterwinners and eight starters from the 2011 squad,
and welcome a crop of five freshmen. After the Aug. 17 Maroon &
White game, the Aggies travel to California, to open the season at UC
Irvine on Aug. 20. The team’s home opener is on Aug. 25 vs. UTSA at
Ellis Field.
