Aggie Baseball Inks Nine Commitments

        

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas A&M Baseball program received certification on National Letters of Intent and appropriate paperwork for nine newcomers for the 2015 season, including seven of the top high school student-athletes in the nation head coach Rob Childress announced on Thursday.

“Coach (Justin) Seely, our recruiting coordinator, did an incredible job of putting together a very talented class along with the help of Coach Andy Sawyers,” Childress said. “These young men are not only incredibly talented but they are also of great character. These nine guys will not only make an immediate impact on the field in competing in the SEC but will also make a difference off the field during their time at Texas A&M.”

Eight of the nine players hail from the state of Texas, including seven prep standouts. The Texans includes C/UT Cole Bedford (Deer Park/Deer Park HS); OF Matt Collins (Houston/Memorial HS); RHP Brigham Hill (Nacogdoches/ Nacogdoches HS); INF/RHP Jake Jarvis (Spring/Klein Collins HS); OF Blake Kopetsky (Bryan/Rudder HS/Temple College); RHP Turner Larkins (Arlington/Martin HS); RHP/OF Corbin Martin (Cypress/Cy-Ranch HS) and RHP Tyler Woodmansee (Buda/Hays HS). The Aggies also secured Iowa native OF Eric Schenck-Joblinske (Cedar Falls/Dike-New Hartford HS), a junior college transfer who played one season at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids.

The class includes six high school players ranked among the Perfect Game USA Top 500, including four in the top 200. The group includes Larkins (72nd), Jarvis (121st), Hill (145th), Bedford (148th), Martin (273rd) and Collins (291st).

Texas A&M opens its 2014 season on Feb. 14 when the Aggies host Northeastern at Blue Bell Park for a three-game series.

·         Named to Texas Rangers Area Code team in 2012, one of only two rising juniors on the squad

·         Hit .390 and earned All-District 22-5A Second Team as a sophomore

·         Named District 22-5A Co-Newcomer of the Year by the Houston Chronicle as a freshman

Quote from recruiting coordinator Justin Seely: Cole has been the best catcher in the state since he was 15. His arm strength and athletic ability are as good as you can find for that position. He will be recovering from Tommy John this spring and we anticipate him being fully healthy next fall.

 


Matt Collins – OF – Houston, Texas (Memorial HS)

·         Currently ranked No. 291 in the nation among high school juniors by Perfect Game USA

·         Perfect Game USA Second Team Preseason High School Underclassman All-America in 2013

·         Perfect Game USA Preseason High School Underclassman All-America Honorable Mention in 2012

·         Named an All-District 19-5A Second Team designated hitter as a junior in 2012

·         Standout tailback on the Memorial High School football team, earning All-District 19-5A Second Team recognition as a junior in 2012

Brigham Hill – RHP – Nacogdoches, Texas (Nacogdoches HS)

·         Currently ranked No. 145 in the nation among high school juniors by Perfect Game USA

·         Earned spot on Washington Nationals Area Code Team in 2013

·         Tabbed All-District 16-4A First Team as a first baseman in 2013

·         Named All-District 14-4A Second Team as a pitcher in 2012

Quote from recruiting coordinator Justin Seely: Brigham attacks the zone with three, sometimes four pitches and all have a chance to be better than average.  After recovering from an arm injury in the middle of his high school career, he is fully healthy and going to be dominant this year in Nacogdoches.

 

 

Jake Jarvis – INF/RHP – Spring, Texas (Klein Collins HS)

·         Currently ranked No. 121 in the nation among high school juniors by Perfect Game USA

·         Perfect Game USA Preseason First Team High School Underclassman All-America in 2012 and 2013

·         Named District 13-5A Most Valuable Player and All-District 13-5A First Team as a junior in 2013

·         Tabbed All-District 13-5A First Team as a sophomore in 2012

·         Played on 2011 USA Baseball 16U National Team and helped US win the gold medal at the IBAF World ‘AA’/16U Youth Championships

·         Selected All-Texas Honorable Mention by ESPNHS in 2012

Quote from recruiting coordinator Justin Seely: Jake is the most competitive and complete player in the state in my opinion. He can really hit and does it in big spots. The fact that he has a really good arm on the mound only adds to his value.

 

Blake Kopetsky – OF – Bryan, Texas (Rudder HS/Temple College)

·         Played in 41 games for the Brazos Valley Bombers of the Texas Collegiate League [TCL]  in 2013, hitting .309 with 34 runs, six doubles, one triple, five home runs, 50 RBI and 11 stolen bases

·         Hi 2-for-3 with one run, one double and two RBI in TCL All-Star Game

·         Hit .310 with 32 runs, four doubles, three triples, one home run, 19 RBI and nine stolen bases in his first season at Temple College in 2013

·         Tabbed Class 4A All-Texas Third Team as a outfielder by the Texas SportsWriters Association as a senior in 2012

·         Selected to play for North in the 2012 Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association 4A/5A All-Star Game in Round Rock, Texas

·         Named District 16-4A Most Valuable Player and All-District 16-4A as an outfielder in 2012

·         Pegged an All-District 16-4A Pitcher as a junior in 2011

·         Selected an All-District 24-3A First Team first baseman as a sophomore in 2010

Turner Larkins – RHP – Arlington, Texas (Martin HS)

·         Currently ranked No. 72 in the nation among high school juniors by Perfect Game USA

·         Perfect Game USA First Team Preseason High School Underclassman All-America in 2013

·         Registered a 12-1 record as a junior with the only loss coming in a state semifinal game against Fort Bend Dulles

·         Tabbed Class 5A All-Texas Third Team as a pitcher by the Texas SportsWriters Association as a junior

·         Named All-District 3-5A First Team as a junior

·         Tabbed Newcomer of the Year by the Dallas Morning News and District 4-5A Sophomore of the Year in 2012

·         Went 11-0 with a 1.28 ERA and 62 strikeouts as a sophomore in 2012

·         Member of the Texas Rangers Area Code Games team in 2013

Corbin Martin – RHP/OF – Cypress, Texas (Cy-Ranch HS)

·         Currently ranked No. 273 in the nation among high school juniors by Perfect Game USA

·         Selected to play in UnderArmour All-American Game in 2013

·         Tabbed Class 5A All-Texas Third Team as a pitcher by the Texas SportsWriters Association as a junior 

·         Named District 17-5A Most Valuable Player and All-District 17-5A First Team in 2013

·         Earned UIL Class 5A State Tournament MVP in leading Cy-Ranch to a state title in 2012

·         Tabbed District 17-5A Second Team as a pitcher in 2012

Quote from recruiting coordinator Justin Seely: Corbin is a fantastic athlete. His family has a really good athletic history. Corbin didn’t start pitching until he was in high school. He fills up the zone with three pitches and can play a really polished centerfield.

 

 

Eric Schenck-Joblinske – OF – Cedar Falls, Iowa (Dike-New Hartford HS/Kirkwood CC)

·         Played in 27 games for the Outer Banks Daredevils of the Tidewater Summer League in 2013, hitting .310 with six doubles, four triples, one home run and 18 RBI

·         Hit .362 with 10 doubles, one triple, seven home runs, 28 RBI and 11 stolen bases at Kirkwood CC in 2013

·         Ranked second in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference in home runs in 2013 with seven

·         Named Iowa Community College Athletic Conference Division II All-Region Second Team

·         All-Iowa First Team and all-district first team player as a senior

·         Three-time all-conference first-team selection in high school

·         Played football at Iowa Central Community College in 2012

·         Four-sport standout in high school, playing football, basketball, track and baseball

So right off the bat you know he is strong, durable and a really good athlete. His best baseball is in front of him and he is becoming a special player in a short time.

 

 

Tyler Woodmansee – RHP – Buda, Texas (Hays HS)

·         Currently ranked the top 1000 in the nation among high school juniors by Perfect Game USA

·         Unanimous selection to All-District 27-4A team as a junior
