REBELS, GATORS CLASH IN OXFORD

Thursday’s game in Oxford features a pair of teams near the top of the SEC standings with third-place Florida visiting fourth-place Ole Miss. The 13th-ranked Gators will face a Rebel squad coming off two straight wins and three victories in its last four outings. Ole Miss has defended its home court with a perfect 8-0 mark this season, while Florida is 1-4 on the road.

Gamecocks Rip Down 65-60 OT Win at #25/22 Vanderbilt
       
NASHVILLE – South Carolina needed extra time but held off a charging No. 25/22 Vanderbilt team to score a 65-60 victory Sunday afternoon at Memorial Gymnasium. The Gamecocks (15-5, 4-3 SEC) snapped a three-game losing streak with what had previously delivered a seven-game win streak – stingy, disciplined defense, aggressive offense and gutty plays when they counted most. Senior La’Keisha Sutton finished with 20 points, including a career-high four 3-pointers, and five of the team’s nine points in overtime.

   

   

Gymnastics Shows Improvement, Falls to No. 8 Florida

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Behind a season-high team score on floor exercise, where two Wildcats set or tied their career-high marks, the University of Kentucky gymnastics team showed improvement from its first Southeastern Conference meet of the year to its second meet of the year in a 196.275-194.075 loss to No. 8 Florida at Memorial Coliseum on Friday night.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida’s Jordan Jones scored 16 points and the Gators benefited from seven made threes to hand the LSU women’s basketball team its first Southeastern Conference loss and snap its 10-game winning streak by a score of 62-58 on Sunday afternoon in the O’Connell Center.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – While the University of Alabama remains proud of Foster Auditorium, the new home of its women’s basketball team, Mississippi State has also found the facility to its liking.
           
Trailing for most of the contest Thursday night, MSU notched its first Southeastern Conference victory of the season and a second straight win in this building. A late Kendra Grant 3-point basket broke a tie as the Lady Bulldogs posted a 66-61 victory.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Despite taking first in two more events than top-ranked Georgia, the 14th-ranked University of Tennessee Lady Vol swimming and diving team came up a bit short on Saturday afternoon, as the Lady Bulldogs prevailed by a score of 169-131 at Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens, Ga.atatorium in Athens, Ga.

But the co-Big East Conference champs had to work to put away Vanderbilt (6-7), a team that tied for fourth in the Southeastern Conference's East Division, despite forcing three turnovers and coming up with two sacks. The Commodores led 21-17 when Abernathy became the first Cincinnati player to return a kickoff for a TD in the program's 13 bowl appearances.
